Newspapers and Magazines

  1. Which magazines and newspapers do you read? Why?

I usually read a mix of local and international newspapers, such as The Guardian and The Times. I enjoy these because they provide in-depth coverage of current events, which helps me stay informed about what’s happening in the world.

  2. What kinds of articles are you most interested in? Why?

I’m most interested in articles about culture, technology, and health. I find them engaging and informative, and they often provide insights that I can apply to my own life.

  3. Have you ever read a newspaper or magazine in a foreign language? When/Why?

Yes, I’ve read articles in Spanish while learning the language. I did this to improve my vocabulary and comprehension skills. It was a challenging yet rewarding experience.

  4. Do you think reading a newspaper or magazine in a foreign language is a good way to learn the language? Why/Why not?

Absolutely! Reading in a foreign language exposes you to new vocabulary and phrases in context, which can enhance your understanding and fluency. It also makes learning more enjoyable as you engage with topics of interest.

Part 2 (Long Turn / Cue Card)

Describe a Restaurant You Enjoyed

One restaurant I really enjoyed visiting is a cozy Italian place called “Bella Italia.” It’s located in the heart of the city, just a short walk from my home.

I chose this restaurant because I’ve always loved Italian food, and I heard great reviews about their pasta and pizza. The warm, inviting atmosphere made it an appealing spot for a nice evening out.

During my visit, I ordered their famous spaghetti carbonara, which was rich and creamy, and I also tried a margherita pizza topped with fresh basil. Everything was incredibly delicious!

I enjoyed eating there because the service was friendly, and the ambiance was perfect for a relaxed meal. The flavors were authentic, making it feel like I was dining in Italy itself. Plus, sharing this meal with friends made the experience even more special.

Part 3 (Discussion)
The examiner asks you about yourself, your home, work or studies, and other familiar topics.

Restaurants

  1. Why do you think people go to restaurants when they want to celebrate something?

People often choose restaurants for celebrations because they provide a special atmosphere that enhances the occasion. Dining out allows for a festive experience where food and service can add to the joy of celebrating with loved ones.

  2. Which are more popular in your country: fast food restaurants or traditional restaurants? Why do you think that is?

In my country, traditional restaurants tend to be more popular. Many people appreciate home-cooked flavors and the cultural significance of traditional dishes, which fast food doesn’t usually offer.

  3. Some people say that food in an expensive restaurant is always better than food in a cheap restaurant — would you agree?

I think it depends. While expensive restaurants often focus on quality and presentation, there are many affordable places that serve delicious food. Price doesn’t always guarantee better taste; sometimes, it’s about the skill of the chef and the freshness of the ingredients.

Producing Food

  1. Do you think there will be a greater choice of food available in shops in the future, or will there be less choice?

I believe there will be a greater choice of food available in the future. As globalization continues and technology improves, we can expect a wider variety of ingredients and cuisines accessible in local shops.

  2. What effects has modern technology had on the way food is produced?

Modern technology has significantly increased efficiency in food production. Advances in farming techniques, such as precision agriculture, have helped farmers grow more food with fewer resources. However, it has also raised concerns about sustainability and the environmental impact of large-scale agriculture.

  3. How important is it for a country to be able to grow all the food it needs, without importing any from other countries?

It’s quite important for a country to be self-sufficient in food production. This not only ensures food security but also supports local economies. However, some degree of trade can enhance variety and access to foods that might not be grown locally.
